
STARR, Clara Frances, (nee Pike), of Dartmouth, passed peacefully away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born August 30, 1931, Fran was the daughter of James and Margaret (Powell) Pike. She grew up in Carbonear,NL where she worked for Eaton’s order office, later moving to Bay Roberts where she met and married Ted and raised their family. In 1967 they moved to New Jersey where Fran worked as a library clerk at Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceuticals. In her spare time and into retirement Fran enjoyed playing bridge, volunteering, knitting and sewing. Her family and friends have many handcrafted treasures to cherish. Leaving to celebrate her wonderful live are her children; Jean (Percy) Strong, Kathy (Albert) Benoit, and David Starr; her grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew (Jennifer), Blair (Charlene), Renee (Joshua); great-grandchildren, Madison, Lukas, Logan, Henry, Alice, Quinn, Oliver and Norah; her sister and best friend, Margaret (Pike) Brown; brothers, Henry Pike and Roy (Eileen) Pike; sisters-in-law, Enid (Stick) Starr, and Eileen (Mercer) Pike. Fran was predeceased by her husband of 69 years Edward “Ted” Starr, her parents James and Margaret Pike; brother, James Pike; sister, Flora (Pike) Joy; sisters-in-law, Frances (Martin) Pike, Iris (Starr) Bishop; Eileen Starr; brothers-in-law, Alex Brown, Cliff Joy, Ron Starr, George Bishop and niece Marilyn (Bishop) Oliver. A celebration of Frances’ and Ted’s lives will be held in NL at a later date. In Fran’s memory donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
