FOGGOA, Daisy Margaret – 90 of Dartmouth. It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our devoted mother, peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of January 3, 2016. Born in Woodside she was the daughter of the late Claude and Beatrice (Crowell) McKenna. She is survived by sisters; Dorothy Goodall and Connie McKenna, daughters; Connie (Tom) Wheatley, Sandra (Jamie) Conrad, Val (Tim) Bailey, sons; Bill (Jenny) and Philip. Grandmother to Charlene, Erin, Carol, Mike, Laura-Lee, Jennifer, Denise, Zach, William, Sam, Anna and ten great grand-children. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, sisters; Rose Swaffer and Marie Ferguson, brothers; Jack, Bruce and Dint McKenna. Mom grew up in Dartmouth, and paddled war canoes with her sisters at Banook Canoe Club in her teens and was an avid skater and bowler. She was well read and never seen without a book. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting historical and religious sites during her travels to visit her children in Europe, California, Montreal and Toronto. She later enrolled in psychology courses at University in her 60’s. Her home on Chappell Street was an open house to family, friends and neighbours dropping by for a cup of tea. However when M.A.S.H. was on, everyone had to quiet down! Her baking was renown, as were her pancakes for her grandchildren, but more than anything she was known for lending a helping hand to anyone who asked. She was a well-known parishioner at St. Paul’s and St. Anthony’s Churches. Mom got her license in her early forties and could often be seen running errands in her old Valiant convertible, top down, cigarette in one hand. If you needed a drive she was there for you. She was an ardent supporter of all her children and a much loved sister in her large family. She endured many hardships and health issues in her life yet never complained. She had an indomitable spirit. Mom, you will be truly missed. A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 8, in Saint Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 199 Windmill Road. Reception to follow. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
