It was both a pleasure and a privilege to have known and worked with Dan over the last 20 years. His dedication to the job and willingness to assist all will be sadly missed. I will especially miss this sense of humour and our walks to the ferry at the end of the day.

I have known Danny for over 30 years and although I never worked directly with him, it was evident that he was a very dedicated and well respected employee.  I enjoyed running into him always, as I never knew if he was going to compliment me or be sarcastic, both of which I enjoyed immensely. I am very saddened to hear of such an extraordinary life that ended too soon.  EVERYONE liked Danny. All my sympathy goes to his Mom, sisters and to You Janice.

To Dan's family and Janice. I know there is nothing any of us can say to make this time easier for you all. Most of us are at a loss to adequately express our various relationships with Dan. We knew him to be private yet completely open in his interactions and relationships at work. There are few in our organisation who did not know who Dan was...and you would not hear a negative word from anyone about this man. He was kind and helpful to everyone. His interactions pleasant and respectful to each person with whom he came in contact. He had a smile for everyone. Always.  He never passed anyone without saying "hello".  He was respected by everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with him even for the shortest time. I've worked with him in everything from boring meetings to emergency situations. While the rest of us were running around Dan was always the model of self control. Seemingly always having the answer and knowing what to do. 
Kipling once wrote in part, from a poem called "IF": "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you...Yours is the earth and everything that's in it..."
The line reminds me of Dan. Those who worked with him for so many years knew him to be the person who remained calm. Never a word said in anger or even what would seem to be frustration. Don't we all react in frustration and regret it? Not Dan.  Always calm. Always the one you would turn to if we needed to know what to do or where to turn to regarding security issues. 
It says something about the man when our first reactions to hearing of his passing are selfish…what are “we” going to do…not about work…in work his experience and knowledge won’t easily be replaced…no most of us react first about the person we will miss seeing each day. The person we all personally counted on more than he knew and worst of all…I never got to thank him for all the things he did and help he provided to make my day easier.  He truly was a special person. A gentleman. We all feel your loss, although nothing we can say will take away the hole I’m sure you are each feeling in your hearts.  My deepest condolences.

I work in the Saint John security office, but had the pleasure of working with Dan in Halifax on a few occasions. While in Saint John, I often phoned him with questions. He was very knowledgeable about all things security and was always willing to help out with a solution or valuable opinion.

I will miss having him as a colleague.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to his family, friends and Halifax colleagues.

My knowing Dan is through our workplace at CRA and I recall most... his professionalism and available smile. He was an 'all around nice guy' and ready to accommodate given a moment's notice. And what is very evident, in hearing of his sudden passing, is that he was extremely well liked and highly respected by all those he came in contact with. As a colleague and friend to Janice...she would often share the kindest words of his thoughtfulness and devotion to his mom and family... and I would time and again comment 'what an awesome guy' he was. Extending my deepest condolences... his presence as we know it... will be sadly missed.

Viola, Myrna,Shirley and families -What more can be said than has been expressed here? Thank-you Shirley for our conversation on Monday when I read the sad, sad news. I knew Dan in a more personal way having dated him for 4 and 1/2 years and got to know him and your great family. I missed you all when Dan and I parted but thought of you often. May God bless each of you and hold you in his loving hands during and after this heartbreaking time.

I met Dan in 1990 when I transfered in from the Vancouver office. Dan was always so pleasant and helpful from day 1. I actually thought he 'ran the joint' because Dan was the 'go-to' person for so many things. He was always polite and helpful and would go out of his way if necessary to help out. Though quiet, I know first hand Dan had a great sense of humor. Many times I 'crashed' his lunch table at the Sir John and we would have some great chuckles. He was dry but could pack a good line. What I want to say most, Mrs. Osborne, is that your Dan was a true gentleman. Yesterday, when the news hit, the building was silent save for tears. From the support staff to all levels, Dan touched us all and we all felt the loss yesterday, as we continue to today. He will be missed I assure you. I had the pleasure of working with Dan for many years at the Canada Revenue Agency and spent several years working directly with him in Accommodations, Telecommunications & Security.  Dan was someone who was liked by everyone. I have talked to many people at the agency and the loss of Dan is felt by everybody. The nature of Dan's work meant that he made contact with just about everybody in all divisions. His presence and his humour and his vast knowledge will be greatly missed. I know I speak for a lot of Dan's co-workers when I say that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I worked with Dan for nearly 27 years, the majority of the time was going to him looking for help for something to do with the building, the telephones, a key or a code or getting a new security pass because I had misplaced mine. He ALWAYS knew the answer or solved the problem and did so with a smile every single time. Recently I began working with Dan more closely, I found I still went to him for everything! There was no one who knew the building, the employees and the business of security and emergency procedures more than Dan.  He truly cared about people's welfare. 

Aside from the work itself, we had fun working with Dan. We were a small team and worked well together. We are "around" the same age and enjoyed playing our tunes and chatting about different things.

I will miss him a lot.

My daily ferry commute home more often than not consisted of sitting beside Dan while we discussed events and happenings at the Ralston Building or in the real world....often with comical results.  I will miss his dry sense of humour and his knowledge of just about everything.  I will miss Dan and my heart goes out to his family at this time.

I would like to offer my deapest condolences to Dan's family.  

I was fortunate enough to have worked with Dan back in 1995-98 and I will always remember how dedicated he was to his job.  I also respected his dry sense of humor.

He will be remembered.

I had the pleasure and priviledge of working with Dan for many years at CRA. He truly was a remarkable individual who was very dedicated and committed to his work at the CRA. His knowledge and expertice combined with his dedication made the work environment better and safer for us all.

As Director for the past 16 years (recently retired), I appreciated Dan's commitment, his ability to deal with all situations regardless of their complexity or urgency and his pleasant and calm demeanor. His sense of humour also made for a more enjoyable workplace. Dan truly made a very positive difference for us all at the CRA.

I spoke with Dan recently (at Sobeys) and was shocked to hear of this very sad news.
