November 22, 1945 - May 6, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David George Fitch of Dartmouth, at the Dartmouth General Hospital on May 6, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Kentville, he was the youngest son of the late George Fitch and Marjorie (Leopold) Fitch.
Dave is survived by Wendy (Joudrey) Fitch, his loving wife of 56 years. He leaves behind his daughter Natalie (Fitch) Connell; son-in-law Trevor Connell; grandchildren Thomas and Emily Connell; sisters Carol Sutton (Dick) and Geri Pedlow (Jim); several sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Doug Fitch (Marge).
Dave had many fond memories and stories of his childhood growing up in Kentville. After he completed his drafting course at Vocational School, he moved to Dartmouth where he created a successful career as a structural steel draftsman, eventually becoming self-employed through his company Davco Structural Services Ltd. He was a lifelong regular blood donor. In his retirement years, he enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity Restore and the local food bank. Dave was always an active man, playing racketball, squash, and golf. He and Wendy enjoyed their travels in their younger years, visiting the UK, several US states, and the Caribbean. He cherished his days at Lake Paul, boating, water skiing, watching for wildlife, and most of all spending time with family.
He was always beaming with pride for his daughter and grandchildren, eagerly following their adventures. Dave loved his son-in-law as the son he never had. He was a quiet principled man with a small but close circle of friends. Those who knew him well appreciated his wit. He was always up for a good feed of fish and chips and a beer.
Cremation has taken place in the care of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Interment and graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 24, 2025 at Morristown Cemetery (6589 Aylesford Rd, Kings Co) at 1pm with Reverend Chad Clements officiating. No reception following.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care from the VON and Dartmouth General Hospital staff over the past months. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may consider a charitable donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of NS, the Canadian Cancer Society, or your local food bank.
