I’m so sorry to hear of David’s passing.  I have fond memories growing up across the street on Elmwood and playing tag or hide and seek with the neighborhood gang.  My children had the privilege of knowing him also as they went to Shannon Park School.  It was a privilege to know him.   My thoughts and prayers are with you all.  ❤️

Our entire family was so sad to learn of Mr. David's passing.  My kids are in grades six and four and he has been a mainstay of their school experience thus far.  He was a huge personality at Shannon Park but he always, always recognized the kids no matter where he ran into them and made a point to say hello and chat.  We would see him around town and especially at the Remembrance Day service at Sullivan's Pond in Dartmouth.  He was just a pleasure to be around, such a lovely man.  The school has lost a very special person.  Our sympathy and best wishes to his family and loved ones.  

I am so surprised and saddened to learn of Mr. David’s passing. My son is now in grade 6 at Shannon Park and my daughter is in grade 2. He was such a personality at the school! It was years before my children learned he wasn’t the principal! He greeted them as they got off the bus, every morning for years. He always remembered my kids & I and had a friendly word for us whenever we met him out walking in Dartmouth. What a kind hearted soul. ❤️ Rest easy, Mr David!

Mr David, as the kids all called him, was one of the kindest, gentlest, sweetest souls you would ever meet. He was there to greet the kids when they get off the bus every day. They all loved having him around to greet them and to be at school with them. The thing I remember the most about him was that big smile. He was always smiling. Not only did the kids like having him around, but so did the parents. He surely left his mark on people's hearts. My sincere condolences to his family. He will be missed by many, I am sure. 

I was very saddened to learn of David's  serious health issue and his  passing. I knew David quite well from the north end of  Dartmouth. In his career and in his life, David brightened the lives of many people. I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to his loved ones at the time of his passing. RIP David. You will be mIssed~


We at Family Vision Clinic were so saddened to hear of Davids of passing. 
David was a patient and friend for many years. He was always welcome in the clinic.  He would  bike ride to our clinic near Cole Harbour at least a few times per week. 
He brought joy to our hearts as soon as we saw him.  We will truely miss David in our lives. Heaven has a wonderful new member. 

So sorry to hear of David’s passing! He greeted my son on his first day of school and had so much love and joy to share! 

He was a friend of ours at Big Brothers Big Sisters too.

David was an amazing human! He touch so many people and was such a pure soul! David was a long time client at my employment for years! 2-4 times a week we would have our regular visit and have a good chat and laugh always teasing each other! He would visit me so often one occasion,  I Jokingly told him “I’ve changed my name” he said “ok Rosita” lol 😂 we laughed, and years later he would randomly call me Rosita as a joke lol 😂… I will miss your pure joy of life and caring nature David.

I've known David since I was 6 years old. I have fond memories of David,  he was always so cheerful, and I always looked forward to talking with him. As I grew in age, Dave was always around the corner to say hello too, I recalled him always going on walks with his mother, she was also a very nice lady. 

This truly has made me sad, and my condolences go out to Dave and his family.

My sincere condolences to David's family.  I met David when my children went to the school he worked in, and spent lots of time chatting with him.  We also shared Scouting time together when he was on the Service team.  He was such a gentle soul and a sweet man who genuinely cared about others, especially the children.  And his memory for names was phenomenal!  The world has lost a great deal now that David has 'Gone Home.'  R.I.P. David, and may the love so many have for you comfort those you have left behind.

David was such a special part of our community.  15 years ago we sent our first off on the bus to school and Mr. David was there to great him, then his sister for many years. Living in the same neighbourhood we would see David out for his walks and he would always chat, asking first about the kids. Regardless of what he had going on in his life, he took on every challenge with sincerity and with a positive attitude. We will miss him but never forget him.

My deepest sympathies to you on the passing of David.   .  As you know he was always out and about and I'd see him on the bus, at the mall or just on the street and at church,  of course.  
He was so excited and proud to get his long term service award a month or so ago from the school board.  It was quite an accomplishment.

It is so strange  not to see him sitting in his spot at church.    I won't forget him.  He knew so many people and  and will be missed by all who knew him.  May your memories give you comfort.

Dave was the guy who looked out for us little ones at Hawthorne school. I would always run into him in Dartmouth many years later and always remembered my name and my friends.

All of the neighbours on Hester Street will dearly miss David and his cheery greetings as he went for his walks...even though he had moved to Alderney Manor, he was always back to go to church, and say hi to everyone. I am so saddened to hear of David’s passing. I worked with David at both Harbour View and Shannon Park schools. David will be remembered for his kindness and care for the children. My deepest condolences to David’s family. 

One of my first days teaching in Nova Scotia, Mr. David came up to me and introduced himself and told me if there was anything he could help me with, he would! He meant it! 
Throughout my time at Shannon Park he would always come say hello and ask me how I was doing. Often lending an ear and kind advice. 

The world needs more people like Mr. David; Kind, reliable, gentle, trustworthy and genuine. 

I hope his family and all those who loved him find comfort at this sad time in the memories of the caring and thoughtful human he was. 

I heard him once say “choose kindness” to a student. It has been incorporated into my own classrooms ever since. 

I had the privilege of working with David at Shannon Park. He had the ability to make every child feel special and important. His positivity was contagious and his presence will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family as you honor his well spent life.

Hi, Dave was a friend of all in our family beginning with his time with my children January and Michael Bartkow at Hawthorn school and continuing on with Jans daughter Krysten at Shannon Park .He was loved and respected by all the kids. In the years following Dave volunteered to help me with Natal Day events,  with his favorite being the East Coast Bellyflop Championships.  He would assist with every detail to make it the great event it was. 
 Seeing him on the streets in later years he referred to me as the King of the Bellyfloppers.  A name I am proud of.  He also assisted me with Dartmouth Minor Hockey Day for the two years we ran with it. He was there early in the morning until evening selling raffle tickets and greeting every kid and parent who showed.  He knew everyone intimately. We all loved Dave and now we celebrate the life of a dear friend. Ken and June Farmer

He was a good friend to all, and never forgot a coworker or student even after many years. He will be missed.  May your memories bring you consolation.

He was truly one of the best persons I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing.  my son (now his last year of high school) adored Mr. Dave. He cried on his last day. Not becuse he wouldn’t see some of his classmates again, but because he was saying goodbye to Mr. Dave ( he would always tell me Nathan was his favorite). Nathan wouldn’t leave school that day. He waited and waited until he found Mr. Dave so he could say goodbye, get a hug & have their photo taken.. Mr. Dave will be missed by so very many. He touched soooo many lives. 41 years of volunteering at Shannon park ecole; he never missed a SINGLE DAY. Always there to help out and make sure the kids were all happy and safe. Made sure they made it to the correct bus. Called them all out by name. Honestly…A movie could  be made about this man. He was SO dedicated to the kids.  He genuinely cared. I spent time watching Mr Dave help, when we were in Beavers (as I was a  beavers leader with Mr Dave for a short while) and he was equally present there if not more! Not to mention his volunteering with big brothers/big sisters. He did what he did. Heat, wind, snow and rain; nothing stopped this gentleman. 
They sure don’t make ‘em like Mr. Dave anymore.
He will be fondly missed by so very many.  Gone, but he will never be forgotten.  no one will ever be able to fill his shoes. I know he is fondly looking down on us and watching over us, like he always has. 
My deepest sympathies to his family and all his friends. Rest in heavenly peace, Mr Dave. 

I will always cherish the Remembrance Day pin he got from the legion that honours our Indigenous solders who fought for our country. It is a beautiful metal pin with a poppy transposed onto a dreamcatcher. He was so proud to give it to me and I am so proud to wear it. He asked The Legion for one for his "good friend." I will miss you very much, Mr. David and you will always be "my good friend" that I will think of often. I wish your family peace and the knowledge that your memory will live on in the hearts of so many.
