BEHAN, Donald Lewis “Donnie” - Passed away peacefully at home on February 9, born in Dartmouth he was the son of Lou and Gertie (Hilton) Behan. Donnie worked for over 30 years for Nova Scotia Power, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Donnie was known for taking care of lawn mowing and snow plowing for the neighbourhood. An avid woodworker making crafts, and building sheds to hold all his tractors and other “collectibles”. His largest collection was of sports cards, focusing on baseball. A Toronto Blue Jays fan, Donnie’s love for baseball only grew as all four of his grandchildren excelled in the sport, he enjoyed watching them all play over the years and was so proud of all they accomplished. Donnie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol (Garland), his daughters Donna (Scott) Negus and Carrie Hagen and four grandchildren Alex Negus, Joey, Katie and Krissie Hagen. Donnie was predeceased by his parents, sisters Blanche Hanson and Marlene Stevens and son in law Scott Hagen. The Family would like to say Thank You to the Doctors and Nurses at the Cancer Centre and Mitch from Palliative Care. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street in Dartmouth on Wednesday February 17, 2021. Online condolences may be sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com

Carol and family
I am sending along my condolences at this time.
I will always remember the friendliness meeting Donnie at the memorabilia shows, the phone calls on helping him to finish a set and the connection though my family and Carols and the conversations about genealogy and our grandkids. Never a conversation went by about baseball and the adventures of the Blue Jays or his grandkids. Ironically Donnie passed on the release date of the New 2021 Topps baseball. Donnie will be missed but never forgotten.

Donnie was a hard worker and a good family man.
He enjoyed life and had a strong love for his grandchildren and his cherished baseball.
His presence will be missed but he will not be forgotten. We shared a lot of good times, laughter and a few brews.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to you Carol, Carrie, Donna and your families.
RIP Uncle.

Dear Carol & Family,
So very sorry to hear of Donnie’s passing. We will always fondly remember Donnie as a family man and our good neighbour of many years. It seemed he knew most of the people who lived in our neighbourhood, he knew the land intimately and he kept an eye out for all. To us, he was the “King of the Hood” if you will, while perched on the ‘throne’ of one of his magnificent lawn or snow machines, particularly the big John Deere. He was such great help to many of us with our yard chores and equipment failures. Often times, he shared the added bonus of a good story to laugh and carry on about.
We will surely miss Donnie’s presence, but will carry his spirit with us.
Stay safe, keep well and know we are thinking about you.
Sincere Condolences,
Marie & Grant

To the Behan family,
I always remembered stopping in at your cottages on my way to Pembroke with my family. Donnie and his wife always welcomed us with open arms. My brother, sister and I would run around with their grand children playing, laughing and having fun!
I also remember stopping into their house between basketball games in the city when I was younger - again welcomed with open arms and snacks.
When I was in high school I was at a baseball game in the city and seen this couple sitting up on the hill watching the game and knew they looked familiar. I marched over (just like my grandmother would) and announced who I was! They were both excited to see me and happy I recognized them!
I know our family will miss Donnie and our hearts are with Carole, and their whole family. My sincerest condolences on a truly wonderful man lost.
