

Age 97, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2016. Born and raised on East Foley Mountain, Colchester County, NS, he moved to Dartmouth with his wife, Mildred, in 1941. He was the son of the late Charles and Louise (Mattatall) Totten. He and Harold Mattatall were joint owners of Mattatalls Funeral Services and the Dartmouth Crematorium. In his younger years, he was a Dartmouth volunteer fireman and a member of the Dartmouth Curling Club. For many years he served as an Elder at St. James United Church and in retirement, he volunteered at the church food bank and with Meals on Wheels. He joined the Kiwanis Club and was a Charter Member from 1943 - 2015. He was also a member of the Austinville Owls Club where he enjoyed numerous hours of cribbage and good cheer. He was predeceased by his wife Mildred (Tattrie) and brothers Harry, Arthur and sisters Jean and Ethel. Survived and sadly missed by son Terry, daughters Carole Joyce (Bill Joyce) and Shirley Austin (Ted Austin) and grandchildren Katherine (Joyce) Walker, William Joyce (Megan Joyce) Pamela Austin (Troy Beniot), Glenn Austin(Meg Moody) and five great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Cameron and Kennedy Walker and Riley and Ethan Joyce. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00a.m. in St. James United Church, 181 Portland Street, Dartmouth, with Rev. Fred Snyder officiating. Reception will be held in the church hall following the service. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to any charity of your choice.
