

Age 96, of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Born in Great Village, NS, December 29,1920, Ella was the daughter of the late Truman Randall and Gertrude (Patriquin) Spencer. During the years the family lived in Saint John, NB, she enjoyed her time working as an "Avon Lady". She had a large clientele and received many awards from the company for her achievements. After moving back to Dartmouth NS, she worked for the Department of Supply & Services in Burnside until her retirement in l985. After retirement she worked with Seniors helping Seniors, driving people to doctors appointments, etc. She was an active member of the Grace Keeler Mission Group at the Baptist Church.
Ella was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a gracious and generous lady who lived her faith and gave herself to others. She is survived by her daughters, Trudy (Gerry) Metlin and Christine (Ted) MacDonald of Dartmouth and son, Wayne (Mary) Duffy of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB. Ella is also missed by her grandchildren, Terri Clarke, Todd (Allison) Bennett, Cara (Stephen) Funk, Allison (Steven) Roszmann, Stacey (James) Coleman, Lauren (Matthew) Alexa, and Dustin MacDonald; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother, Fred (Bonnie) Spencer and sister, Doris Smith. She was predeceased by her husband John Ronald Duffy, sister Jean Baxter and brothers Layton and Edwin Spencer. The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to friend and caregiver Marie Whitman and to the staff at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Home. Visitation and funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 8th at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth, officiated by Rev. David Watt. Visitation will be from 10a.m., funeral service at 11am with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Dartmouth or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
