Williams, Elsie Morton – 90, passed away peacefully August 25, 2012, at the Adelaide Respite Inn, Waverley, NS. She was born In Bedford, NS on October 30, 1921. She was the daughter of Charles and Lillian Smith. She is predeceased by her husband Edgar, son Stuart, grandson Christopher, and brother Earl Smith. Elsie is survived by her son Glen (Jane), and nephew Blair (Marion) Mitchell.
Elsie worked for Simpsons and Imperial Oil before she married Edgar Williams in 1947. Edgar’s naval career took them to Ottawa, where son Glen was born, to Dartmouth, where son Stuart was born and to Toronto in 1953. The family settled in Dartmouth in 1958.
Here Elsie spent many happy years. She became a member of the Naval Wives Club, Dartmouth Curling Club and Brightwood Golf and Curling Club. In latter years she enjoyed the companionship of “The Lovely Ladies” at Brightwood.
Elsie was a loving wife and mother, spending many years as a caregiver to her son Stuart and later her husband Edgar. Elsie and Edgar were involved in the Parkinson Society for a number of years. Elsie enjoyed history and developed a slideshow presentation about Bedford where her family migrated from St. Margaret’s Bay. She used many pictures from family photographs and shared anecdotes from her life.
Her family gives thanks to those who were entrusted with her care. Initially, Margie Campbell supported Elsie so she could remain in her own home. Up until the time of her death, the staff of the Adelaide Respite Inn, under the supervision of owner, Janet Ozon, watched over her. As a result, Elsie continued to be the happy, curious and independent person we so loved.
Visitation is arranged at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2 to 5. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to The Parkinson Society or Alzheimer Society. Online condolences can be sent or viewed at www.mattatallfuneralhome.com.
