HOOGHE, Florence Vaughan – Of Beaver Bank, passed away on the morning of December 23, 2021. This was the end of an adventurous life which started on November 29, 1927 in Westville, Pictou County, spanning an incredible 94 years. Through those years she would witness a Polio pandemic, 2nd World War, Korean War, and make many memories with family and friends from coast to coast. Florence made the decision early on to move to the big city to make her way in life, which led her to Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary, working mostly within the banking industry. However, with the arrival of grandchildren she wanted to move home, to Nova Scotia, where she spent her retirement years.
Having caught and recovered from the Polio virus early in her life, her health was always a concern - but she always seemed to keep soldiering on, leaving doctors to commonly remark that she was “tough stuff”. She was able to spend many years with her grandchildren Emily and Amy, and lived to know her great-grandchildren, Everett and Sybil, they were special gifts. Florence loved to dance and to meet new people, which she did for as long as she was able. She made many new friends in her years in Nova Scotia, as well as many wonderful neighbours who made her life easier. Florence was an animal lover - she spent many days watching the hummingbirds out her front window, and always loved hearing stories about the cats granddaughter Amy treated as a veterinarian. Florence loved her family, and was predeceased by her father and mother, Alexander and Edith Hubley, and her 3 sisters Irwinna, Jean and Frances. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Arthur, who was a constant caregiver over the past 2 years, son Frank (Nancy), grandchildren Emily (Steven) and Amy, and great-grandchildren Everett and Sybil. She will also greatly miss her brother Randy (Christine) and her special niece Donna (John), she loved them dearly.
Due to COVID restrictions there will be no service, with urn burial in the Spring.
