Mayes, Florence Blanche “Fawn,” of Dartmouth Mum passed away at Oakwood Terrace on September 28, 2020 at the age of 94. She is now where she longed to be, dancing with Dad among the stars. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was the matriarch of our family. She was born in Dartmouth on September 25, 1926 to parents John and Eva (Gay) Boyle. As well as her parents Mum was predeceased by her loving husband, James Mayes in 1976; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and John Hilchie, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Cecilia Boyle; sister, Joan Conrad; and nephews, Jack Boyle and George Hilchie; niece, Linda Liddard. She will be Lovingly remembered by daughters, Susan Lavers (Joseph), Simcoe, ON, Marilyn White (Richard), Oyster Pond, NS, Christine Marshall (Richard), Saint John, NB; grandchildren, Andrew Lavers, Ruby Razzano (Joe), Jaime Vervaet (Sandy), Nicholas White (Rebecca), Philip White (Vanessa); great grandchildren, Dylan & Devin Kuhn and Luka Razzano; she is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews and their children. Thanks so much to Mum’s many friends whose kindness brought great joy to her life, she loved you all! Thank you also to the staff and residents of Oakwood Terrace for the care and friendship over the last 10 months. Mum worked for many years at Eaton’s, Fisher Scientific & Carrier as a secretary. She loved to travel, always up for an adventure, she loved gatherings for special occasions and family visits, always welcoming everyone with open arms. Music had a special place in her heart. She had been an active member of the Church of Saint Andrew, Cole Harbour, Shannon Chapter of the IODE and the Senior Centre on Ochterloney Street. Arrangements have been entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Mum wished for a full church funeral, but due to Covid19 this will take place as a memorial service at a later date. There will be a graveside service on Friday October 2, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Lawrencetown Cemetery, Lawrencetown Road (before the beach), officiated by Rev. Katherine Bourbonniere. All are welcome to attend however social distancing and masks are required. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lawrencetown Cemetery. And just at that moment when someone by my side says “she is gone” There are others who are watching her coming And other voices take up a glad shout “here she come!”
