Born in 1932 in Springhill, Nova Scotia, Jerry was the daughter of the late Rev. George and Marjorie (Landels) Hamilton. She is sadly missed by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Carmen F. Moir, Dartmouth; sons: Stephen (Alvina), Winnipeg; Andrew (Jennifer) Hammonds Plains; Philip (Kellie) Denver, Colorado; daughters: Carla (Stephen Shaw), Truro; Jane (Dean Whitaker), Williamsburg, Kentucky and sister Joyce (the late Ken Jones), Dartmouth. She also leaves behind 12 precious grandchildren: Jonathan (Chantal), Elyse, Gerald(Rebecca), Stephanie, Amanda (Jordan Thiele), Alexandra, Rebecca, Hayley, Daniel, Katherine, Caeden, Gavin, two great-grandchildren: Maëlle and Dermot, and 16 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one grandchild: Sheila Gwendolyn Moir.
Jerry graduated from Halifax Business College and worked at the Royal Bank and Bank of Nova Scotia until marrying Carmen in 1954. Jerry was a homemaker providing great love and support to her family and all their friends who also lovingly called her “mom”. She was an active volunteer in the community and in her church, teaching, providing leadership to various committees, chairing the deacon’s board, and hosting Bible studies. Until her stroke in September of 2011, she was involved in the Marilyn Smith Missions group, First Baptist choir, Elder Learners and was a member of the Dartmouth Historical Association, Dartmouth Museum Society, and the Seniors Service Center.
Jerry was best known for her creativity and gifts of hospitality and compassion. Many travelers were welcomed into her home with fresh baking and an encouraging word. Jerry treasured spending time with her family and friends. She loved to walk on the beach and swim in the waves, read to her grandchildren and knit beautiful sweaters. She thoroughly enjoyed a good game of Scrabble and was an avid reader, wordsmith, poet, musician and artist. She loved any adventure, especially travelling with her husband.
The family would like to thank the care givers that assisted with Jerry’s care since her stroke in 2011.
