He was the proud father of Callie Palmer (Luis Aulestia), Kim Kaine (Scott Kaine), and A. Palmer. He is survived by his sisters, Susan Conway (Bob Conway) and Leslie Long (Derek Long) and nephews Kenny Conway (Sonya Guerette) and Michael Long (Kaitlyn Henderson) and niece Bobbi-Jo Burgess (Mark Burgess). He was predeceased by his parents, Murray and Vivian Palmer, brother Ken Palmer and sister Brenda Gallant.
His family will remember him for his humour and his resilience. Harold believed deeply in focusing on what can be changed, accepting what cannot, and having the wisdom to know the difference. It was a quiet philosophy that guided his life and his support for others.
Harold loved the outdoors. Hunting and fishing weren’t just hobbies for him; they were part of who he was. He was also an expert fly tyer, carefully crafting flies with the patience and precision of an artist. Many fish probably admired the workmanship before realizing they’d been fooled.
Early in his career, Harold worked at The Chronicle Herald. Later in his life, he found meaningful work at the Freedom Foundation, where he made a lasting impact on residents and colleagues alike. He had a way of meeting people exactly where they were, offering encouragement, honesty, and often a joke at just the right moment.
Harold leaves behind a legacy of laughter, compassion, and the reminder that life is best faced with a little courage, a lot of heart, and a good sense of humour. In keeping with Harold’s spirit, those who remember him are encouraged to share a story about him, retell one of his jokes, lend a hand to someone who needs it, and appreciate the simple wisdom that helped guide his life
