

Stevens, Helen C. – 91 of Dartmouth, Helen’s journey ended surrounded by her loving family August 7, 2010 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Falmouth, Helen was the oldest daughter of John T. and Pearl (Edwards) Burgess. Helen grew up in Kentville and graduated from KCA. She worked as a telephone operator with the former MT&T until her marriage. Following her marriage she lived in Toronto, Trenton Ontario, and Yarmouth with her husband who was in the RCAF. For many years Helen lived in Kentville where she was active in St. Paul & St. Stephen United Church as a Sunday school teacher and Explorer Leader. After moving to Halifax, Helen continued her church involvement at Bethany United teaching CGIT and Sunday school. Her faith was a very important part of her life and read the Bible daily. She had also been a Rotary Ann and Gyrette. Family and friends were very important to her and she thoroughly enjoyed the past two months having her great granddaughter visit. Helen had been an active bridge player, enjoyed reading and playing the piano and organ daily. Predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Roy, her parents, brother Vincent and infant sister Marjorie. Helen had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very caring, gentle, person. Affectionately known as Nan to her grandchildren’s friends. Helen spent many winters in Florida and enjoyed her travels to Europe and Hawaii. She will be missed and remembered fondly. Survived by her daughter Donna Farrell (Dartmouth), son-in-law Michael, her grandchildren David (Halifax), Susan (Dartmouth), Peter (Hong Kong), granddaughter-in-law Gloria, great granddaughter Chloe as well as four nieces. Visitation will take place at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 10th 6-8 PM. Funeral will take place 11 AM Wednesday, August 10th at Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth. Reverend Vincent Ihasz officiating. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice. Interment in Center Falmouth Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
