As part of her therapy she began painting, something she became passionate about and continued doing throughout her life. Later on in life she starting writing, publishing a book for children. She was never afraid to try something new, a true inspiration to all that knew her . In 1953 she met Raymond and were married in 1955. Helen was Ray's constant support and foundation. Helen was always 10 steps ahead of her disability; demonstrating proactive solutions to any barriers and proud of her independence. She had a passion for current events, politics and sports, especially hockey. Helen loved a great game of bridge with her incredibly wonderful friend group. It was always a common sight to see Helen in her power wheelchair motoring along the streets to Mic Mac Mall, the Halifax Casino, her Condo catching an Access A Bus or along the Scotiabank Centre at a Moosehead game.
