The family of Isobel Jane Paterson sadly announces her passing on January 9, 2024 at the Dartmouth General Hospital, at the age of 97. She was born in Dartmouth on August 4, 1926, to Hilda (Long) and John Paterson. She is survived by her sister Ruth (Harry) Eisenhauer (Calgary), nephews, Ian and Peter Flewwelling; Ray, David and John Adlington, John and David Eisenhauer; nieces, Janet Adlington and Janice Eisenhauer; many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Vera (Adlington) and Joan (Flewwelling); nephews, John Flewwelling and Alan Adlington; and niece, Doris Davies (Adlington).
She did her nurse's training in Montreal at the Royal Victoria Hospital where she made many friends who continued to see each other through the years at Class Reunions. She worked at the Victoria General Hospital in the Public Health Department and was Head of Infectious Disease Control at the hospital when she retired.
She is remembered for her help in caring for her parents and the relationships she maintained with family. She was a life long member of St. James United Church and a supporter of many charities. She loved traveling and spending time at the family cottage in Jeddore.
She enjoyed knitting and was an avid bridge player. After retirement, she volunteered at the Food Bank at St. James Church.
She spent her last few years at Parkland at the Lakes where she was very happy meeting new friends and bridge players. The family would like to thank the Parkland Staff who were so kind to her.
The family would also like to thank the Staff on 3 East at the Dartmouth General Hospital for the care she received there.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday March 26,2024 2:00 pm at St. James United Church, 181 Portland St., Dartmouth. Followed by a short visitation and interment at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bide Awhile Animal Shelter or St. James United Church would be appreciated.
