

Bamwoya, Dr. James Jasper, PhD. 67, died in a house fire, February 17, 2014. Originally from the village of Nyabushabi, Uganda he was the son of the late Mushure and Zinabweine. James completed his undergraduate degree in Physics and Geology in 1974 at Makerere University, Uganda and came to Canada in 1975-1978 earning his PhD in Geochemistry at UNB Fredericton. He returned to Uganda then Kenya where he was a Professor at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He moved back to Canada in 1982 with his wife; Cathy and son Jamie and eventually settled in NS where he lived for 25 years. He was an Enforcement Officer at Environment Canada. James is survived by his loving wife, Cathy (nee Hillman) sons; James Wilfred (Trisha Topping), Ian, Edwin, Kevin and daughter Emmily. He is also survived by his brother Elijah and sisters; Ester and Vesta all in Uganda; by loving sisters in-law Susan (David) Tapley and Ellen Hillman (Paul). He is predeceased by brother Able. He regrets that he never was able to return to his home but had all his love here in his family. James will be missed by his family, friends, coworkers and the Ugandan Community. Cremation has taken place, with a visitation to take place 2 – 4 pm Sunday February 23, 2014 in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street.
