
Jean grew up in Bedford. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Education, and taught for four years in Halifax before leaving teaching to raise her family. She was very active in Grace United Church. She was involved with the UCW, taught Sunday school and was a member of many other committees. She spent many years volunteering with Dartmouth Pre-school and teaching ESL students in Dartmouth. Jean was also a member of the IODE, Maid Marian Chapter.
Jean was a very kind, loving, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved reading, spending time at the cottage in Boutilier’s Point, swimming, skating, and walking.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, David; children, Mary (Martin) Walker, Andrew (Pat Seary), Janice Inkpen (Scott Logan), Catherine (Bob) Mertens and Tom (Suzanne Roberts); 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Alice Baker; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her long-time friend, Barb Mackinnon. She was predeceased by her brother, David Baker.
A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 2pm in Grace United Church, Rev. Stephen Fram officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Grace United Church, the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
