

Skinner, Jean Isabel – 90, It is with great sadness that we announce that our loving Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, sister and Aunt went home to be with our Lord and Savior on October 10, 2010. Jean was the daughter of the late Woodford and Augusta Lawrence, born in Fredericton, NB. She was married in 1946 to the love of her life, the late Douglas Andrew Courtney Skinner of Halifax. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church for over 60 years. She taught a literacy program at Trinity Anglican Church and pre-school at Cornwallis Street Baptist Church. On Agricola Street, while raising her family, Mom was known as the “Taffy Apple Lady”. Jean enjoyed being a member of the Friendly Girls, North Branch Library Women’s Group, a volunteer at Northwood Seniors Centre with the ceramics group, the North End Walkers and the Salvation Army Ladies Take a Break. She received the Women of Distinction award in 2007 from the North End Women’s Group at the Halifax North Public Library. Mom enjoyed baking, sewing, reading, playing cards, bingo, bowling and watching the Toronto Blue Jays. Known as Mom and Nanny by many, loved by all, her door was always open. Jean is survived by her son David (Stephanie) Halifax; Teddy (Barbara) Johnson, Mississauga; daughters, Elaine James, Dartmouth; Karen, Cedar Hill, Texas; Kim (Eldon) Colley, East Preston; Shelley Drummond, Dartmouth; sisters, Grace Skinner, Fredericton, NB; Greta Fequa, Plattsburg, NY; brothers, Louis Lawrence, New Westminister, BC; Lloyd (Jasmine) Lawrence, Toronto, ON; Raymond (Evelyn) Lawrence, Dartmouth; along with 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, her God child Debbie Hill, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Ernest and Bill, sisters, Marion and Ferne, sons in-law Kenrick and Ronald. Her arrangements are entrusted to A. L. Mattatalls Funeral Home where visitation will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Going Home Service will be held Saturday at Trinity Anglican Church, 321 Main Ave., Halifax at 11:00 am with Reverend S. Ashton officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Family request that the visitation and funeral be scent free.
