GILL, Jeffrey Adam - It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Jeffrey Adam Gill of Dartmouth, NS on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of forty-one. Jeffrey passed away at the Halifax Infirmary emergency department surrounded by loved ones.
Although it was a very difficult goodbye, we are grateful that he was able to kiss his beloved kids goodbye before sending them off to school and then proceeding to seek medical attention for an unknown ailment. While we await answers for exactly what happened to Jeffrey, we reflect fondly on his life and the memories we made over the years.
Born July 22, 1981, Jeffrey was predeceased by his loving father Raymond. Jeffrey is survived by his spouse Vanessa Ibona, children Sofia and Adam, mother Janet (Edgeworth), sister Lindsay (Kevin) Arsenault, nephew Brayden, niece Maddelyn and many uncles, aunts, and cousins in Ontario, BC, and the USA.
Growing up, Jeffrey was heavily involved in Scouts, starting as a beaver and continuing all the way to becoming a venturer and even receiving the Queen’s Venturer Award. Jeffrey also played football for many years at the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club and then for PA high school. From a young age, Jeffrey loved watching his dad cook and knew that he always wanted to be a chef. He began his studies at NSCC, followed by two more years at The Culinary Institute of Canada in PEI. Shortly after graduation, he moved west to pursue his dream of becoming a Red Seal Chef, which he achieved a short time later while working at several venues in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. One of his favorite jobs was at the Elkhorn Resort in Manitoba, which is where he met Vanessa.
As Jeffrey’s family continued to grow, they decided to move back closer to home on the east coast. The first stop was in Moncton and then a year ago they found a place in Halifax to be even closer to family after the passing of his father. Jeffrey was the Executive Chef at Buck Ugly’s restaurant in Halifax up until a few weeks ago when he decided to make a change from the long hours of running a kitchen and moved into a role that offered a better family balance.
Jeffrey was recently hired as the Account Manager for Food Service in the Halifax region at Chandler Sales, which again was following in his father’s footsteps and certainly had his family excited to see where he would go on this new career path. In his spare time, Jeffrey loved taking the kids around to show them different places from his childhood. He also enjoyed playing golf with his mom and of course, cheering for his Miami Dolphins.
A celebration of life will be held at Mattatall Funeral Home 217 Portland St. Dartmouth on Friday, April 21st at 11:00 am followed by a private family interment at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Feed Nova Scotia in Memory of Jeffrey.
