MCGEAN, Katherine “Kaye” Effie – 98, of Dartmouth, passed away on Sunday, August 25, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Reserve, CB on December 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Mary Ann (MacLeod) MacKillop. Loved and raised by John and Effie MacLeod. Kaye joined the Women’s Army Corp where she met our Dad in the fall of 1944 at a Halloween party. There was a candy toss and Dad presented her with a few of the candies and told her, “We can eat these on the way home”. They were married on May 12, 1945 and raised five children together. She was employed in retail for many years in Halifax. Kaye was a devote Christian and happily shared her love and care with her family, friends and even people she had never met. She always had room in her heart and at her table for everyone. Kaye’s sense of humour served her well and endeared her to many. She was always eager to try new things and tag along on an adventure. She will be keenly missed by all who knew and loved her. Weren’t we blessed to have been loved by her. She is survived by her two sons; Jim (Claire) McGean, of Tantallon, Ian (Lorraine) McGean, of Edmonton, her three daughters; Gail (Bob) Lewis, of Ottawa, Kathy (Bruce) MacMillan, of Dartmouth, Tena (Gary Organ), of Ottawa,. She is the adored Grandma of Robbie, Ryan, Jeff, Kerry, Neal, Erin, Katherine, Patrick, Matthew, Sarah and Caity. Kaye is also survived by her seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years, James “Jim” McGean, brothers; Angus and Donald MacKillop. Also her special friend and sister in-law Agnes Wall! Kaye was also predeceased by a grandson; Robbie and daughters in-law; Nancy and Debbie McGean. No visitation by request. Those wishing to attend a Celebration of Kaye’s long and wonderful life are invited to join her family at 11am on Friday, August 30, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Classy lady, sly sense of humour, humble but fiercely proud of her wonderful family. So glad that I knew her. My thoughts are with her gang.

I have very fond memories of my years as Kay's hairdresser. She was full of wit and put shoes on my feet and my kids through college with her loyalty!
Kathy, My thoughts are with you and your family as your Mom goes home. It's hard to lose a mom, but many fond and forgotten memories will sustain you. God bless for a life well lived. Sandy sanford
