I would like to offer my condolences to all of the Mantley family. For most of my life I have had the good fortune of knowing Lionel and many other of the family members, including Mrs. Mantley, Bertha.
I last saw Lionel at the Dartmouth General Hospital last winter when I visited. At that time he was still as friendly and optimistic as he was every time I saw him over the last 45 or so years. I will remember him whenever I walk in the old neighbourhood.

Lionel I was so sad to hear of your passing you were definitley there for everyone and especially the seniors, my Mom, Anita and Florence will miss you dearly!  To Mrs. Mantley, Charlene and the entire Mantley Family, the Cromwell Family sends our deepest condolences and prayers! I will miss our little talks from the backyards!

May God continue to strengthen you and your family during this time of need.  Lean not unto your own understanding but in all things acknowledge and trust in the Lord. Bro. Lionel contribute so much to this world and his community.

Dear Mrs Mantley, Charlene and family;
It has been a blessing and a privilege on this journey to meet Lionel and to beomce acquainted with him, a bit , over these past 10 yrs.. To me, he was a man with quiet, inner strength but displayed kindness and graciousness of spirit. His smile, his greetings  and warmth could cheer  up any day. The qualties of his character remind me of the scriptures, I Corinthians 13 in  terms of  living out what Love is - that it suffers long but is kind,  is not rude, not envious, does not parade itself, is not boastful- does not keep a record of rights or wrongs but always hopes, trusts, and aways perseveres..
Thank you for nurturing such a lovely soul. The world was a better place with Lionel in it. He will be missed  and yet we do have his example, to relfect upon and from which to learn. Susan Jefferies-Murray

Dear Mrs. Mantley, Charlene and the entire Mantley Family,
It has been a blessing and privilege to meet Lionel on this journey called life and to get to know him a bit over the last ten years.  He was a remarkable man with a strong spirit of kindness and graciousness. If more people had the gifts that Lionel  so humbly possessed and gave,often in his  quiet, gentle way, the world,our communites & families  would be better places.
Lionel drew little attention to himself and his manner of living with dignity, in turn, naturally offered dignity to others. Thinking of him reminds me of the scriptures of I Corinithians 13 which shares that - Love is patient, Love is kind; it is not  self seeking;does not boast, is not envious;keeps no records of wrongs. It always hopes, protects,always perseveres- it never fails.Lionel seemed to live his life close to these wonderful qualities.He will be greatly missed, but his example remains.

Dear Mrs. Mantley and Family,

All of us at Metro Community Housing Association (MCHA) who knew Lionel will remember him as a man of great humour, compassion, faith, and ability. He fiercely maintained his independence, contributed to his community, and pursued his varied interests. Family was of great importance to Lionel and his love was returned by the support of his family throughout his life, and expecially during the past few months. It has been a true privilege for our Association to provide support to Lionel over the past 25 years, and he will be dearly missed.

Lionel was by far one the strongest people to walk the face of this earth. His personality was such that one could not help but instantly like him. He will truly be missed by all of us at MCHA. It was an honour and a priviledge to have known such a wonderful man. Our deepest condolences on your loss.
