

FIRTH, Malcolm John – of Lake Echo, passed away on April 5, 2018 in the Infirmary Site QE II. Born in Sandy Point, NS he was the son of the late Harry and Reta (Decker) Firth. Malcolm was employed at the Canada Food and Drug Association and the N.S. Research Foundation. Malcolm was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. He was a founding member and life-long active supporter of Orenda Canoe Club. Malcolm loved building. He built four houses on his own. He also renovated many homes and volunteered on many community construction projects. Malcolm was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, bird watching, growing Christmas trees, smoking salmon, looking for wild life and feeding fish at his pond. He shared all of these things with family and friends. His time at his Giants Lake “Camp” and Ship Harbour “lot” were sacred to him. Malcolm was an avid sports fan. He coached little league baseball. He especially enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds. He loved watching his grandchildren participate on the field, in the rink and on the lake. Malcolm was an eager fund raiser and supporter of many organizations. He started the Orenda Canoe Club yearly “Fishing Derby” as a way to introduce sport fishing to young people. Malcolm was a family man, his greatest accomplishment being his children and their families. He is survived by his loving wife Joan, sons; Ian (Wanda), Corey (Christine), daughters; Andrea (Roger), Jocelyn (Shawn), brothers; Churchill and Bernard, grandchildren; Raina, Nathan, Myah, Devin, Ben, Mitch, Grace, Fenway, Caden, Ethan and Ryland, great grandchildren; Marissa, Keylin, Sloane and Rowan, many nieces and nephews. Malcolm was predeceased by his daughter; Valerie and brother; Cecil. Visitation will be held Friday, April 13, in St. David’s United Church, Lake Echo, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Celebration of Life Service will be held 11am Saturday, April 14, in St. David’s United Church, Rev. Kym Burke-Cole officiating. Burial to follow the service.
