Marion Grace Baldwin

BALDWIN, Marion G. “Barney” - 80, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Nan was born in England and was the daughter of the late Earle and Margaret Smith. Nan studied at McGill University (where she met Papa!) and soon after became a teacher. Nan left Gatineau, QC and moved to Nova Scotia with Papa and family in 1973 and has been in the same home ever since. In Nan’s retirement years, she became very active in the community and remained so to this day. For 40 years Nan had several roles and responsibilities with the IODE, Mary Lawson Chapter. Nan joined the Dartmouth Curling Club in 1977 and had been a member ever since. She was an active member of Christ Church where she has made so many friends and was the focus for much of her charitable efforts. Nan was a member of the IWK, Curling and Colby Bridge groups – she claimed to be quite a player! She was a great supporter of minor sports in which her children and grandchildren played. She spent most summers at ‘the Island’ on Lac Chaud which was her favorite place to spend time with family and friends. Mom became “Nan” with the birth of her first grandchild in 2001. She was an amazing grandmother and spoke frequently about her grandchildren – especially with the Burger King Crew each Saturday morning. Marion is survived by sons, Alan (Catherine) and Grant (Karen), daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Neal; and grandchildren, Ian, Lee, Luke and Max. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William James “Jim” Baldwin. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Monday, March 13th. Memorial service will be held 11 am in Christ Church on March 14th, Rev. Dr. Kyle Wagner officiating. Interment in Heritage Oak Columbarium, family only. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dartmouth General Hospital or Christ Church. Special thank you to the Staff of the Dartmouth General Hospital ICU and 4 West.
