

Gracie, Mary Ann - 90, of Dartmouth passed away on September 7, 2014 at the Windsor Elms Village in Falmouth. Born in Ardness, Pictou County she was a daughter of the late Angus Hughie and Catherine (Homer) MacDonald.
After graduating from Normal College in Truro, Mary taught in one room school houses in Pictou County, Cow Bay and Woodlawn, and upon marriage, decided to stay at home to raise her family. She was an avid walker and bridge player, and was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She was a woman of great faith and was very active in her church, being a member of the CWL at St. Thomas More Catholic Church for over 40 years, and sponsoring families in India. She was very kind, and generously donated her time volunteering at the gift shop at the Nova Scotia Hospital, F.O.O.D, Hope Cottage and the Canadian Cancer Society.
She is survived by her children, Merle Gracie, Dartmouth, Wayne Gracie, Dartmouth, Brian (Aylene) Gracie, Ottawa and Roslyn Gracie, Toronto; grandchildren, Brad Hoyt, Laura Gracie, and Daniel Gracie; two great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; sister, Rita MacDonald; brother, Billy MacDonald.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 10 from 2-4 and 7-9pm in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Funeral mass will be 10am Thursday September 11 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 15 Caledonia Rd., Dartmouth. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
