

Max was born January 27, 1939, to Robert and Rosanna (Rose) Young in Dog Cove, Parish of Burgeo and Ramea Newfoundland. He grew up on the Island of Ramea until he was seventeen when he left to join the Canadian Armed Forces.
He proudly served in the Army for 37 years (1956 – 1993). Max was stationed on various bases including 4RCHA (Petawawa), Artillery School (Gagetown), RCA Battle School as a CWO (Shilo) ending his career as a Commissioned Officer (Captain) at Marcom (Halifax). Although he had many achievements as a soldier his deployment to the Island of Cyprus in 1982 as a Peace Officer was one, he was proud to have had the opportunity to perform.
He was predeceased by his wife (Barbara), mother, father, four brothers and sister. He is survived by his children, Dianne (Don) Cameron – Bridgewater, Larry (Janet) Pelletier – Shelburne, Bill (Diane) Pelletier – Ottawa and Maxine (Brian) MacPhee – Halifax, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and sister Mary (Ben) Barker – Lower Sackville, as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
Max was an avid runner up into his later years. He loved his Halifax Mooseheads and held season tickets from their induction into the QMJHL until 2014. He loved to watch his beloved Toronto Blue Jays up until the day of his passing.
His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Emergency Department and 3East at the Dartmouth General Hospital. In addition, we would like to thank the staff at Parkland at the Lakes (Jaimeson Hall) especially Cathy Johnson for the wonderful care they have given our father / grandfather over the last 5 months.
Visitation will be at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth NS on Tuesday August 6, 2024, 2:00- 4:00 and 7:00-9:00. The memorial service will be Wednesday August 7, 2024, 10:00 AM with a short reception to follow at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth NS. The committal will follow the reception at Atlantic Funeral Memorial Gardens, 767 Main Street, Dartmouth NS.
