

Age 76, passed away suddenly at home on July 12, 2017. Daughter of the late Harold and Annie (Adair) Lloyd. Survived by brothers, Kelvin and Alan; nieces, Sherry (Grant) MacLeod, Ottawa and Veronica Lloyd, Dartmouth; nephew, Shane Cooley, BC; great nephews, Rembrant and Harlan MacLeod, Ottawa. Predeceased by sister, Myrna Cooley and brothers, Gilbert and Harold Lloyd. Norma graduated from Saint Peter's High School (Commercial Course) in Dartmouth in 1958 and began working in the then Department of Public Welfare, Province of Nova Scotia in 1959. That was the beginning of a lengthy career with the Department. She furthered her education in 1967 when she completed and graduated from the NS Institute of Technology as a Social Welfare Worker. She held numerous positions in the Department from which she retired as a Director of Special Projects, Rehabilitation Division after 45 ½ years of service. She was well known throughout the province for her work with sheltered workshops for the handicapped/disabled, management and operation of summer camps for disadvantaged and handicapped children. Following her retirement and until recently she was a Guardian Ad Litem with the province representing and providing special protection for persons with disabilities under the Adult Protection Act. Norma was a long time member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and was for many years the Cub Leader and well known in the Scouting community. She was an avid gardener and was well known for her beautiful gardens. Norma had great compassion for those less fortunate, the disabled and handicapped, always going beyond what was expected for her to be of help to individuals. Memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 16th at 3pm in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, School St, Dartmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Cottage or charity of choice.
