

Lushington, Peter Fiddes-91, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully on January 22, 2014 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Dartmouth he was the youngest son of the late Henry and Catherine (Fiddes) Lushington. As a boy of 20 he enlisted in the RCAF and saw active duty in Europe as a tail gunner in an Avro-Lancaster Bomber, finishing his career with the RCAF as a Flight Sergeant. Following the war he was employed by CGE in Sydney then transferred to Halifax where he finished his career. After his retirement he worked for the Corp of Commissionaires for a few years. In September 2013 Peter was presented with his WWII Bomber Command bar by the Honourable MP Peter MacKay and Julian Fantino. Known as Uncle Pete to many, he was the life of the party at family gatherings.
Peter is survived by his sons, Brian (Deborah), Lantz; Barry, Inverness, Fla., Timothy (Paula), Amherst; brother, John, Dartmouth; five grandchildren, Zachary, Chelsea, Ryan, Victoria and Grace; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Josephine; sisters, Catherine, Jean, and Helen; brothers, James, Francis, Henry, Robert and William. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will take place at 12 noon on Tuesday January 28 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Dartmouth. Father Charles Burke officiating. Private interment to follow in Gate of Heaven cemetery. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
