

Tays, Raymond Charles, 90 of Dartmouth, passed away June 18, 2014 in the Veterans Memorial Building, Halifax, Born in Cooks Brook, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late Burke and Addie (Higgins) Tays. He was a veteran of World War II, joined at the age of 18 serving from 1941 to 1946. He was employed by Atlantic Jewellers Travellers Association, Chartered member 1978 to present, also 2 time Atlantic Chapter Salesman of the Year. Long-time member of Brightwood Golf & Country Club, Austenville Owls Club, Past president and member, Dartmouth Kiwanis Club member and past president. Ray spent 52 years in the sales business, being referred to as “The Godfather” of the jewelry business in Atlantic Canada. Organized and thorough, his forte was being a people-person, lighting up a room with his smile and always saving time for a chat. He was an extremely proud veteran that included being present for the liberation of Holland during WW2. Throughout his retirement years, he dedicated himself to the Dartmouth Kiwanis Club serving and volunteering in his Dartmouth community. Surviving are wife Helen (Malcolm); daughter Kathy (Graham MacKinnon); sons John (Elaine Brooks), Jim (Adele Derring); Sister Jean Stoddart; sister-in-law Olive Tays; grandchildren Aaryn, Sarah, Nathan, and Peter. Predeceased by sisters Vera, Fern, Emma, Hazel, and Freda; Brother Bill. Visitation will be held Friday, 2-4pm and 6-8pm in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. Funeral Service will be held 1pm Saturday in St. James United Church, Rev. Fred Snyder officiating. Burial to follow in Gays River Cemetery. No flowers by request.
