Rhoda Marie Borden

Passed away on November 11, 2020

Of Dartmouth. It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rhoda Marie Borden at the age of 84. Mom passed away peacefully on November 11, 2020 in the Dartmouth General Hospital with her husband, son and daughter by her side. Born in Halifax, the daughter of the late Sarah and John Meade, she grew up in Tufts Cove. As a young woman, Mom worked for Leon Neima’s Jeweller and The Royal Bank. She joined Beta Sigma Phi where she made life long friends with her sorority sisters. After raising her children she returned to working, first at Woodlawn Medical Clinic and later retiring from MicMac Dental. Although she enjoyed their second home and friends in Bradenton Florida, her Dartmouth home was where her heart was. She loved entertaining family and friends, enjoyed a good laugh, and was often the life of the party. She was devoted to her loving husband, Bob, for 66 years and to her children, Brenda Borden (Allan King) of Dartmouth and Bob (Cheryl) Borden of Fletcher Lake. Her pride and joy were her grandson, Robert (Shelby) Borden and granddaughter, Taylor Borden. Over the last four months being GG to great-granddaughter, Lincoln Jane brought her great happiness. Mom is survived by her sisters, Marg Swinimer, Joan (Joe) Martin, Jackie Simmons, and Charlene (Allie) Starr. She was predeceased by her sister, Minnie Corney and her granddaughter, Jessica Borden. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no visitation and a family service. Donations in Mom’s memory can be made to Feed Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice.

Oh Brenda, your heart must be broken. No words can express my concern for you and your family. Your mom was such a thoughtful, kind person. Do you remember when she found that doll for my granddaughter Ali? I couldn’t find it anywhere but your mom did! Ali so loved that doll. I told her that a beautiful , kind lady found it for me. She gave me her biggest smile and hugged her doll even closer. She would ask me many times about how she got that doll. She loved the story.
Your mom’s kindness extended even to people she didn’t know. What a fantastic woman she was. You are so lucky to have had her.
I hope this happy memory helps to heal your broken heart. Hugs, Margie

Bob, Brenda, Robbie: 42 years ago Rhoda came into my life. Thank you Brenda. Over the past few days I have been recalling many memories, all that make me smile, most that make me laugh out loud. The many meals which were shared, letting me stay for the last month of the school year, meeting my fur baby pups, knee socks with a dress, "The Owl and the Crunty Cat", big doos, a wrong number, the bad rum, to list a few. Rhoda ( Bob) you always made me feel welcomed into your home. Thank you and much love, Deb.

PS. Rhoda, your apple pie is almost as good as Mom's!
