It is with great sadness that we, the family of the Robert Edward Galbraith, announce his passing on Sunday, March 31st, 2013. Bob fought a valiant battle which ended on his terms, in the arms of his loving wife Carol, with his family by his side. Born in Halifax, NS on October 16, 1938, Robert was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Harrington) Galbraith. Robert spent may years employed with Modern Cleaners at the Victoria General Hospital before leaving to work at Dalhousie University for more than 20 years. He later went on to work at the Bank of Canada and upon retirement began a new career employed, along with his wife Carol, as Building Managers for Halifax County Condominium #15, 7 Jamieson Street, Dartmouth, where they spent 21 happy years. Robert is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol, and daughters Lisa Cochrane (Doug) and Paula Cowie (Scott) and four beautiful grandchildren Kathryn, Stuart, Madison and Siobhan. Robert is also survived by sister Jean Carr and Doris Horne as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was especially close to sister-in-law Anne Piccott and her family, sons Arthur and Jeff, and daughters Kim and Tracy. Robert was predeceased by brothers Bill, Doug and Harold and sisters Mary (O'Donnell), Lillian (Connolly) and Edna (Dick). We will remember Bob best for his sense of humor, which was contagious, as was his ability to see the brighter side of life's darker moments. Many thanks to those who spent time with Bob in the past few months of his life. Those Sunday visits with sister Jean, nieces Heather, Darlene, nephew Phil and other family were the highlight of his week. We also wish to express our sincere gratitude to Doctors Stephen Duke and Roger Michael and the VON for their exemplary care of Robert. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 4th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Mattatall's Funeral Home, Portland Street, Dartmouth, with the funeral to follow on Friday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Father Jan Grotkowski, at St. Anthony's Church, 26 Courtney Road, Dartmouth, NS. Memorial donations would be appreciated to the Nova Scotia SPCA, Bide-A-While or Homeward Bound Pound, all organizations supported by Bob and his love of animals.
