Shirley Elizabeth Ritchie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmother and aunt at the age of 87 at Northwood Nursing Home on December 15, 2012. She died with her daughters by her side after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. Born in Kentville she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Marion (Lyons) Bostick. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Marion Ritchie (Bob Stowe), Halifax, June Young (Phil Wright), Dartmouth and son, Dale Ritchie, Ontario; grandson, Robert Young (Channa); great granddaughter, Shequera Redmond; sister, Laura MacDonough (Arthur), Bouctouche, NB; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Ritchie; brothers, Ernest, Charles and David Bostick.

Shirley was treasurer of the UCW at St. James United Church, Dartmouth for many years and was a member of the Findlay Seniors Club, where she attended dances, played cards and bingo. She loved gardening and decorating her home with the beautiful flower arrangements.

A memorial service will be held 2pm Wednesday December 19th, 2012 at St. James United Church, Portland Street, Dartmouth. Reception to follow in the church hall.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all the nurses and caregivers at 7 Centre of Northwood Nursing Home (at the bridge) for their sensitive care and support.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s' Society or Northwood Care Facility.
