Dear Sally. we were shocked to hear about Gerard's sudden death - we last saw and spoke to him just before Christmas.  Gerard spoke of you quite often and we know you meant a lot to him.  We've known him since he joined the Research Foundation where he and Ron worked together in the chemistry lab, and we have kept in touch and remained friends since Gerard and Ron retired.  Your description of him in the obituary is very true and we considered him a true friend and a very good person.  We will miss him greatly, too.

Both my husband Larry and I worked with Gerard. Although he was very quiet and subdued,he had a very dry sense of humour,which became evident as you got to know him better. We were both very sad to learn of his passing,and pass along our sincerest condolences to you. He was a very kind,gentle soul.

I have a specific memory of Gerard that I would like to share with you- it might make a sad day a little easier. My parents were flying to Hawaii (this was 1976) and the plane flew nonstop to Hawaii from Toronto. Gerard wouldn't believe that the plane would have enough fuel to make it. Every morning,he would come into the lab,and ask me again,was I sure? He had gone home and figured out how much fuel the plane would need to make the flight,and was convinced it just couldn't do it. This bugged him right up until they went. The plane did make it,and he still was hard to convince. I've thought about this over the years,and chuckle every time.

I worked with Stephen when I was secretary to the Chemistry Lab and he was always a very gentle, quiet man and everyday I went to work there he was at his lab bench working on samples.  I don't think he ever missed a day of work.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  My condolences to you.

Hi Sally, I was shaken when I was told Gerard passed, I cannot imagine how you are holding up. He was a very nice guy, I have some wonderful memories.  Please, call me if I can do anything. You both are my thoughts and prayers. Sending our love, Donna, Alex, Debbie & family, Sean & Lisa.

We were neighbors of Stephen's for 5years at Roseway. Always enjoyed our chats and catching up with his news. He was a real fine, gentle person. Our sincre sympathies on your loss.

 A jolt to hear of Stephen's passing


I worked with him  for 20years in the Lab at NSRFC. Everything you said about him  is  very true..  He was good , fair and kind plus a lot more positive qualities.  We didn't know much about his personal life because he was so  private quiet and unassuming  We did know of your existence.  but It took him ten years to tell us that he preferred to be called Stephen.  We did know that he liked music but the astronomy is a surprise . I met him once after Innovacorp blew apart  he told me he was happy in his retirement. 
 I lost my sister six years ago and you are right about that too. You will miss him till the end of your days..
