AUSTIN, Edward Allan “Ted” - November 27th, 1945 - September 5th, 2021 It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Edward ‘Ted” Allan Austin, age 75 on September 5th, 2021 in Halifax, NS. Born in Yarmouth, NS on November 27th, 1945. Ted grew up in Yarmouth, NS and loved spending summers at the Y.M.C.A Camp Wapomeo. He started as a camper and eventually became a counselor and leader. He graduated the Air Cadet Training prescribed by the Royal Canadian Air Force while attending Yarmouth High School, graduating in 1963. His post secondary schooling included Bethany College, Saint Mary’s University and the Canadian Institute of Management. During the summers of 1964/65 he was an Officer Assistant Purser on the ferry M.V. Bluenose, traveling between Yarmouth and Bar Harbour. Following that, he spent 8 years with Maritime Tel. & Tel., beginning as a Trainee Service Representative. Working his way up to the position of Office Supervisor at the Halifax Business Office, where he was well respected and liked by his fellow employees. Ted happily married Shirley Dianne Totten on April, 2nd 1971 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, in Dartmouth, NS presided by Rev. Hugh Farquhar with family and friends in attendance. He went on to work for Maritime Life Assurance Company, Harper E M General Insurance Agency and Manulife Financial earning the CFP., CLU., CH.FC., and EPC professional designations. As a hard working successful certified financial planner, he always put the needs of his clients first. He was a proud member of The Financial Advisors Association of Canada since July 1974 and recently earned recognition for holding the CLU designation for 40 years. He was also an active community volunteer throughout his life, as a member of the Halifax Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Sydney Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Kinsmen Club of Sackville. Sharing his passion for sports and outdoor activities, he was active in the Lower Sackville area with youth sports teams and Scouts Canada. He was a proud father and husband who enjoyed spending time at his summer home on the South Shore. He loved hockey, swimming, table tennis, scuba diving, and hunting. He will be remembered as a humorous, kind, and a hard working man. Always thinking of others, he was an exceptional provider, cook and caretaker who always put his family first. Ted will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley Dianne Austin, children, Pamela Lynn Austin (Troy Benoit), Glenn Edward Allan Austin (Meghan Moody), along with sister-in-law, Carole Joyce (William Joyce), brothers-in-law, Terry Totten and Rev. Dr. Hugh Farquhar – nieces, Katherine Joyce, Rose Farquhar Madden, Laura Bordage, Kathy Austin-Surette – nephews, Billy Joyce, Graeme Farquhar, Glen Farquhar, Wayne Austin, and many beloved cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Reginald Frederick Austin, mother Kathleen Cassandra Austin, step-mother, Violet Dauphinee, sister, Dorothy Louise Farquhar and brother, Harry Frederick Austin. There will be a visitation, for family and friends to share condolences at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St, Dartmouth, NS, Saturday, September 18th from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will occur at Mount Hermon Cemetery.
