

CARVERY, Victor William “Butts” – 69, of Dartmouth, passed away March 20, 2019 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Africville, he was the son of the late Clarence "Duna" and Daisy (Thompson) Carvery. Victor was a passionate advocate for the rights for the former residents of Africville and with his brother; Eddy protested and fought for the compensation and recognition. He loved to play snooker with his long-time partner Pastor Terry Smith and Greg Sarty. Victor also attended NSCAD where he was able to discover a love of art and drawing. He served in the Canadian Coast Guard in the late 70’s and early 80’s where he enjoyed many voyages to the Artic aboard ice breakers. Victor was a long-time and active member of Revival Tabernacle Church and was known by all as “Brother Carvery”. He was the best dancer the church had the pleasure of knowing. The church will miss his Bo Bo Bo’s, “Can’t dance and to fat to fly”. We will miss his “hutch a diddy bubs” He is survived by his sons; Victor Jr. (Cynthia) Sampson, of Moncton, Jason Carvery, of Toronto, daughters; Meteana Sampson, of Halifax, Quincy (Steven) Farmer-Smith, Bonnie (Duran Rolle) Carvery, both of Dartmouth, brothers; Eddie Carvery Sr., Irvine (Monica) Carvery, both of Halifax. Special brothers; Edward Jr. “BooMan” (Catherine) Carvery, Fenwick “Finnie” Thompson, both of Halifax, sisters; Percilla Carvery, of Halifax and Loretta “Snooky” Thompson, sisters in-law; Janice Farmer, Anne Carvery and Dawn Carvery, all of Halifax, grandchildren; N’Kela (Devin), Néomy, Valynn, O’Shea, Jayce, Jayna, Destiny, Drezden, Ansala-wit, Sierra, Paige, Diandra, Peyton, Brianna, Penelope, Tanisha, Lance, Broady, Devin, Brayden, Maya, Godchildren; Mathew Smith, Josh Gabriel, Julian Brumaire. He was predeceased by his loving wife Valerie (Farmer) Carvery, brothers; Raymond, Clarence Jr. “Dickie”, sister; Evelyn “Evy” Thompson, niece; Donelda “Nellie” Thompson and nephew; Kenny Carvery. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 12 – 1pm with a Memorial of Celebration and Thanksgiving at 1pm both in New Beginnings on Saturday, March 30, 2019. Rev. Linda Smith, officiating.
