Vince Cribby, a true gentleman, died peacefully on June 2, 2013, at the age of 88. A son of the late William and Emma Cribby, Vince grew up in the Acadia Sugar Refinery Houses in Woodside, spending countless hours skating on the reservoir and playing on various baseball teams. Over the years, Vince worked for Moirs Chocolates and the NS Museum, in Halifax. He also spent several years in Port Colborne, ON. However, most people will best remember him for his magical touch on the drums. A member of several bands, including Johnny Gold and The Gold Tones, Dixie Tech 7, The Mavericks, Dartmouth Seniors' Choir, and Metro Fiddlers, Vince brought joy to people of all ages for more than 50 years through his music. Besides his passion for music, Vince loved the beauty of Christmas, watching David Letterman ... and the occasional hot dog! He was also an avid fan and a season ticket holder of the Halifax Mooseheads since year one, and he was thrilled to be in the stands last month when "the boys" won their first QMJHL President Cup championship. Making his way to his seat at the Metro Centre was an extra special part of each game, as he greeted and shook hands with his ever-growing 'hockey family' along the way ... and reveled in the VIP treatment he received from the amazing ushers. Thanks to all of you! Vince married the love of his life, Aileen (Dauphinee), in 1957, and four years later they welcomed their precious daughter, Karen, into the world. Sadly, Aileen pre-deceased Vince, in 1988. He was also predeceased by his brother, Noble, and sisters, Ruby, Mona, Doris and Ormi. Vince will be dearly missed by his daughter, Karen, and son-in-law, Sean Gray; sister, Anne MacKenzie; brothers-in-law, Harry Mollins, and Aubrey and Frank Dauphinee; sister-in-law, Olive Dauphinee; many nieces and nephews and their families; and everyone who called him 'friend'. Our heartfelt thanks to all the health professionals who cared for Vince over the past few years, especially Roz Benoit, a nurse practitioner at the QEII. And to the doctors and nurses at the Dartmouth General (3 East and Transitional Care Unit), whose compassion and caring made all the difference during the past few weeks - a special 'thank-you'. Vince's life will be celebrated during visitation on Sunday, June 9, from 3-7 p.m., at Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, and his funeral service on Monday, June 10, at 11 a.m., at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Pleasant St., Dartmouth. Vince's fellow musicians are invited to take part in a 'jam session' at St. Alban's following the funeral service. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Eastern Passage. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, St. Alban’s Church or St. Peter’s Church.
