

ANDREWS, Winifred “Doreen” Age 94, of Dartmouth, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014. Born in England, she was the only daughter of the late Charles Frederick and Louisa Mary Hedderly. Doreen immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1946 as war bride, arriving aboard the Queen Mary with her two children. Shortly after her arrival, Doreen became an active volunteer with the Red Cross and was instrumental in starting the Cod Liver Oil Program in Dartmouth Schools. She was also a long term member of the Halifax/Dartmouth and the Nova Scotia War Brides Associations. After her retirement from Industrial Estates Limited in 1980, she became a member of the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for many years. In addition, Doreen was a member of the Robin Hood Chapter and later the Maid Marion Chapter of the IODE. Her generous and giving spirit was evidenced by the numerous charities to which she gave unselfishly. Doreen loved to read, was a talented seamstress, an avid gardener, gifted artist and loved to play the piano. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Charles Andrews, and her daughter, Valerie Guy. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Judith K. Ferguson, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Tara Ferguson and Valerie Brace (Andrew), Dartmouth; Belinda Dundon (Rob), Ontario, Laura, British Columbia; Andrew, Alberta; and Olivia Guy, Ontario; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Nicholas Doucet, Kayla, Andrew and Madison Brace of Dartmouth, and Liam, Morgan and Alex Dundon, Ontario.
