

RODGERS, William Joseph “Bill”. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bill age 90 in the Dartmouth General Hospital November 7, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax he was the son of the late Albert and Eva (Bartle) Rodgers. Bill retired in 1988 having worked as Vice-President for J&M Murphy Limited and Regional Manager Domcor. He was a veteran of WWII having served overseas. He was past President of the Maritime Travelers Association, District Governor of Gyro International, past member of Halifax Board of Trade and Brightwood Golf and Country Club. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Shirley (MacDonald), sister Phyllis Stapleton, British Columbia, sons Kent William (Debbie), Dartmouth, Brent, Toronto, daughter Lynn Russell (Vince Muise), Dartmouth, grandchildren, William Christopher “Chris” Rodgers, Jill Russell, Ben Rodgers, all of Dartmouth, and Scott Russell (Ashley Murphy) of Enfield, as well as great grandchildren Shania, Marley, Skylar and Chase William. He was predeceased by two brothers and seven sisters. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and father in law. He loved attending his grandchildren’s hockey, soccer, ringette and basketball games. He rarely missed a game or an opportunity to see his grandchildren. He was their best friend and a tremendous positive influence in their lives. In 2002, he and Shirley were awarded fans of the year of the SEDMHA Hockey Tournament. Special thanks to Drs. Jason Yung, Ron Milne and Laura Moeller, and the wonderful staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital and in particular nurses Cynthia and Moe. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11th 2-5pm at Brightwood Golf and Country Club, 277 School St. Dartmouth. Funeral service 2pm Thursday November 12th at Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester Street, Dartmouth. No flowers by request.
