

WAUGH, William (Bill) Arthur - William died peacefully surrounded by his family on January 28th, 2017. Born in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England, he was the son of the late William Ridley and Ella (Craggs) Waugh. After the early death of his mother, he was raised by his paternal grandparents. He attended King's College at the University of Durham. After his first year, he was drafted into the British military and was headed for the Suez before hostilities were called off. He often recalled his military service with fondness over the years. Returning to the U.K., he graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He worked for the County Durham department of engineering for several years before immigrating to Canada in 1968. Once in Nova Scotia, he worked for CBCL, Triton and SNC Lavalin before realizing a lifelong dream and establishing his own company, Waugh Associates Limited. Bill had a great passion for sports and later in life, travel. He was particularly fond of athletics, boxing and rugby, and was able to combine his love of travel with sports. An avid reader, he would pore over the daily Globe and Mail with a passion, and was a keen observer of world events. He is survived by a sister May (Perth, Australia), second wife Lesley (Dartmouth), sons Karl (Hammonds Plains), Jason (Sejong, Republic of Korea), stepdaughter Gayle (Dartmouth), stepson Ross (Wolfville), and 5 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Kathleen (Spoors). Bill's funeral will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday February 4th in St Andrews Presbyterian Church, 216 School Street, Dartmouth.
