

Masonic services for Aaron Lloyd Lake, 90, of Bettendorf, will be 11:00 am on Saturday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Family will greet friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Mortuary. A private family inurnment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Aaron passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at the Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary is assisting family with arrangements.Aaron Lloyd Lake was born on February 13, 1922 in Hills, Iowa to Aaron and Nellie (Stimmel) Lake. He married Virginia A. Challis on May 27, 1942 at the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport. Aaron joined the Army in January, 1943 and fought in the European Theatre, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was a proud vet who in later life was thrilled to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He retired as Deputy Clerk of the District Court, Scott County.Aaron was a 50 year member of Davenport Lodge #37, Early Morning Lodge #672 and Davenport Order of Eastern Star. He was Past Master of Early Morning Lodge #672, Fraternal Lodge #221, Davenport Lodge #37 and Trinity Lodge #208, as well as serving multiple times as Worthy Patron of Davenport OES. Aaron was a gifted teacher of ritual and served as District Lecturer and Masonic Instructor. He also served as DeMolay dad when his sons were active in the organization. His commitment to the Masonic organization and enjoyment of his friends continued up to the time of his illness as he was still attending the Tuesday ‘High Twelve’ meetings.The Lakes were 30 year members of Newcomb Presbyterian Church and Aaron served as Deacon from 1983-1986. He was a supporter of the local veteran’s associations and a dedicated blood donor having given more than 40 gallons in his lifetime and after retirement participated in the apheresis program.Survivors include his two sons; Micheal (Margaret) Lake, David (Pat) Lake; four grandchildren, Kevin (Erin) Lake, Meghan Lake, Libby Lake and Dawn (Kenny) Stone; six great-grandchildren: Ellie, Kylie, Kourtney, Jak, Alaina and Ian. Also left to celebrate his life are two sisters, a wonderful group of extended family and special friends Dee Dee Mueller and Cindi Lake.He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Virginia, his parents, two sisters, and a grandson, Matthew Lake.The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care Aaron received through the Iowa Masonic Home and Genesis Hospice, we are most grateful.
