

Alan D. “Al” Gray, 81, of Blue Grass, IA, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm in the Runge Mortuary Chapel with the service to follow at noon. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Al was born July 27, 1934 in Webster City, IA, and grew up in Jewell, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Gladys (Clabaugh) Gray. He was united in marriage to Lavon M. Hartl on February 24, 1957 in Eagle Grove, IA.
He retired in 1996 from Wonder Bread Bakery after forty years of dedicated service. He enjoyed camping, gardening, fishing and tinkering with his garden tractor. Al was an avid Hawkeyes, Dodgers and Vikings fan.
His memberships included: Operating Engineers Local #150 and CASI. In earlier years, he coached his daughters’ softball teams. He enjoyed woodworking and playing the guitar, having taught himself to play. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren stories
.Those celebrating his life include his loving wife of 59 years, Lavon; children: Joan (Dale) Olderog; Angie (Bruce) Benson; Patty Gray and Bob Gray; sister, Alice Sorenson; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren with one on the way. Preceding him in death are his parents; son, Thomas Alan; sister Arlene Dicus, brother, Arlyn Gray and great grandson, Zane Flowers
