I'm just a soul for God that was found by the salvation army and the one person that saved me the entire time was Captain Alex Velazquez he's the truest man I've ever known and he changed my life back then I will forever
Please do I know this is so many years later except my condolences please, and I am humble.

My stepson who struggled with addiction was taken in with open arms by Captain Alex.  He talked about the Captain constantly and you could tell he really looked up to him.  Captain Alex spoke at his funeral and it meant the world to his mom and I.  I just learned of his passing.  I always wanted to thank him for what he meant to Zach.   So sorry to hear of his passing.  I can't imagine what a loss it must have been to the salvation army family.

I think back to the day your family arrived at 509 for your training. Jaqueline was the little princess and was so shy. We enjoyed your time with us and have since been so proud of all that you both have accomplished.
Alex was a great man, and spiritual leader always wanting to share his testimony to help others find there way.  May you feel the Holy Spirit comfort you and remember people found the Lord under you and Alex’s ministry. Blessings  Your friends always, Mark and Sue

Captain Alex has helped both my finance and myself in so many different ways no words could explain....he has helped us to become ourselves and over come the obstacles of a recovering healthy new life....captain Alex has gotten us closer to the lord....I'm glad we spent that one on on time with each other before he went home....hes a great man and brother......gone but never forgotten......we love you cap....see you again one day.....watch over us guardian angel.....

Alex was my session mate in Salvation Army seminary, mentor, best and one of my only friends. In reality, he was and is family to me. In seminary, we not only supported each other, but joked and had Godly fellowship. His room being next to mine in the singles dorm was no less than God ordained and purposed.

While life took us different directions after seminary, we were always in contact. Always an encouragement and support to each other, probably him moreso to me to be honest. 

Our paths intertwined tightly again in 2010, during the second hardest time of life. It was during my family’s time out of full time ministry. During this Alex gave my wife a job in Ft. Wayne, IN and got me hooked on the Ministry of the adult rehabilitation centers. In Ft. Wayne we helped each other complete our bachelorette degrees as well. 

When the time came to move to Davenport, IA, God saw fit to move Alex and Jennifer ahead of us. We wanted to make the move to be closer to family in 2011. Due to circumstances, my family was on the verge of homelessness. Alex let my family of 5 stay in his basement during the time we didn’t have jobs. We stayed there with their family from Oct 2011 to January 2012. This time solidified us a family. 

During my time In Davenport, Alex hired me as his administrative assistant and taught me the business of the ARC. I was and am hooked. 

Alex believed in me during times that I didn’t believe in myself. He fought for me when it felt that no one else would. He saw my potential, drew it out, and convinced me to believe in me.  While God has been my biggest influence in life, Alex has been a huge part of shaping me into the person I am today. 

I don’t know what my life will be like without him yet. It’s all still setting in for me. I know it will not be the same. 

Jennifer, you are my sister.  Whatever I can do for you, consider it done. I pray God grant you peace and comfort in the days ahead.

I remember meeting  Alex when he was stationed as a Salvation Army Officer (minister) in Norfolk, NE.    Loving Jesus, loving people.
I saw him blossom in his ministry in the Adult Rehabilitation Center.  His compassion and care for every person was always evident.  



Blessed to know Alex as a fellow officer and friend  and served with him through The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers. Your friendship with us and desire to share wisdom with us from your life experience was so appreciated. Both he and Jennifer shared their hearts with so many and we will continue to lift your family and friends up to the Heavenly Father for comfort. Glad we were able to see you in June at our daughters wedding. You will be missed in the ARC ministry Alex. Your staff and men love you and will miss you too. See you in Heaven my friend. 

Jennifer is one of our most excellent Master of Social Work (MSW) students at Indiana Wesleyan University.  Her devotion to faith and family is evident in all that she says and does with her fellow student cohort, and in her courses. The MSW faculty sends our most sincere condolences to Jennifer and her family. You are in our prayers daily.

I had the good fortune of working with and getting to know Captain Alex over a number of years. I watched as he tirelessly helped others during their darkest times. I listened to him inspire others by openly sharing his own story. He was a true believer in others and a man of his word. Simply put, he was a good man. You will be missed my friend. My thoughts are with you and your family. God speed!

The lost of a great man. His words of advice I didn't realize until later how good it was. This is a man who will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace captain Alex.

Captain Alex showed me the way of Jesus Christ when I needed my faith renewed with the heavenly father Captain Alex was always there for me when when nobody else could besides my mom he believed in me and he believed in my dreams that I could become almost anything I want captain  Alex found a house for me and my family to live in if it wasn't cuz of him we would be out on the streets teen night at the Salvation Army here in Norfolk was awesome even going on the small week vacation I believe at CoCo Key's in Omaha Nebraska was the best.  Captain Alex was a happy man always had a smile on his face  we love you Captain Alex may you rest in peace as you enter this beautiful gates in Heaven may God bless you and your family

Captain Alex who was an amazing person.  I remember when we first moved to Norfolk and met him for the first time he was so willing to help out anyone he could I also remember when he found out I was going to have my son he didn't want me doing any lifting or anything,  one day we were helping get ready for Thanksgiving distribution I was carrying an empty box he walks into the soup kitchen and asks what are you doing?  You're not supposed to be lifting anyting put that box down him not knowing it was empty I sat on the table and pushed it to the other end and just laughed. The day I got out of the hospital with my son was the day he left Norfolk to head off to his new adventure.   Also remember I was having problems at work stopped in to talk to him about it and he says don't worry I'll take care of it the next day found out he went in and talked to the two gentlemen I was having problems with.  Couldn't have asked to have a better pastor and friend he was truly amazing with a huge heart for God and to help people

I loved going to his church every Sunday when I would visit my boyfriend. He always made everyone feel welcome and prayed with us and for us. He always gave anyone a chance. He was so selfless. He was so compassionate and was such an inspiration to so many different people. God bless him and his family. R.I.P. Captain Alex

My son Stephen was up there in February 2013 ....he helped Stephen out ...he believed in him... He never gave up on him. Amazing man..RIP
