

Alice Jean Thompson Wray Butler of Newton Kansas and formerly of Bettendorf Iowa passed away February 11, 2025. Alice was born in Centerville Iowa September 24, 1944 to Roy and Hazel Langford Thompson. Alice was a 1962 graduate of Ottumwa High School. She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and St Ambrose University of Davenport Iowa. Graduating with an elementary education degree she taught 17 years at Bridgeview Elementary School, Le Claire, Iowa. Alice married Larry Wray in 1963 they had 3 children. Later married John Butler in 1991.
Survivors are her husband John, 2 children Aundrea Sufficool of Bettendorf, IA and Larry (Sabrina) Wray of Davenport, IA; step-sons Justin (Susan) of Newton, KS, Johnny (Mary) of Ottumwa, IA; sister, Ann (John) Woollums of Buckeye, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Slyter of Greenwood, IN, Zac (Keri) Sufficool of Bettendorf, IA, Harley (Anthony) Wray of Davenport, IA, CJ Wray of Colona, IL; Step-grandchildren Sarah Butler of Newton , KS, Jesse Butler of Newton, KS , Ben (Anna) Butler of Des Moines, IA, Michaela (Alex) Subsin of Ottumwa, IA, Heather (Tony) Butler of Hedrick, IA.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, son Chuck Wray and sister Genevieve Herrald.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday May 3, 2025 at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday May 4, 2025 Brushy Cemetery, Plano, IA with Reverend Kay Singley officiating.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers to make a donation to Parkinson research foundation.
