Alvin Kinji Takemoto, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on August 11th, 2025, at the age of 84. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and impressive collection of boxes filled with mysterious treasures that only he could explain—and now we get to guess.
Born on August 9th, 1941, in Lihue, Kauai, Al was a man of deep integrity and positivity. He was married to his devoted wife, Becky Takemoto, for nearly 49 years—a partnership built on mutual respect, unwavering support, and shared joy in their children and grandchildren. Together, they raised a family grounded in love, dedication, and a little bit of chaos.
Al’s spirit is carried on by his wife, Becky Takemoto, his children, Brian Takemoto, Lisa Takemoto, Beth Takemoto, his son in law, Joseph Liefer, his grandchildren, Isabella Takemoto, Lily Takemoto, Sophia Liefer, and Ella Liefer, his sister Vivian Lai, his nieces, Patti Lai and Trudi Miller and his friend Linda Glover. He now joins his parents, Tsutomu Takemoto and Fumie Funada, his brother, Arnold Takemoto, and his best friend, Ron Glover whose love and influence shaped the man he became.
Al was a proud and loving father and a doting grandfather. His eyes lit up whenever he spoke of them, and he found immense joy in their laughter and accomplishments. Al took pride in his son, who not only carried his love of tennis into college but turned it into a fulfilling career—a true legacy of passion, perseverance, and joy that continues to live on. Al’s love of engineering will be kept up through his daughter Beth who was always encouraged to follow her dream regardless of any obstacles. Al’s love of learning and always being active will be kept alive with his daughter Lisa who has 2 jobs, participates in multiple sports, and is the only family member to thrive in acting, music, and theatre.
A lifelong enthusiast of tennis and, more recently, pickleball, Al found community and vitality on the court. Al had a remarkable ability to turn any court—whether in a familiar neighborhood or a foreign country—into a place of friendship. With a paddle in hand, he effortlessly transformed strangers into companions, leaving behind smiles and lasting bonds wherever he played.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family, his lifelong curiosity and commitment to learning—even at 84—and his ability to find joy in the smallest moments, reminding us all to appreciate the simple pleasures life has to offer. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the love he gave so freely.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, Sept 6th at Runge Mortuary and Crematory. The family will greet guests 12:00pm to 2:00pm at the mortuary prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gigi’s Playhouse Quad Cities, Special Olympics Iowa and Illinois, and Disabled American Veterans.
