

Arlene M. Haines, 86, of Buffalo, passed away on her husband’s birthday Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Friday August 7, 2015 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00PM Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the mortuary. Arlene was born May 6, 1929 in Ottumwa; the daughter of Hubert and Lucille (Mattingly) Simmers. She married Charles Haines on September 3, 1947 in Bloomfield, IA. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1996. She owned and operated Haines Trucking since 1950. She enjoyed Johnny Cash, garage sales, Goodwill and morel mushrooms. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a true matriarch of the family and loved cooking for her kids. For over 53 years she made popcorn balls for the children on Halloween. She is survived by her children: Jerry (Brenda) Haines, Buffalo; Donna (George) Holem, Bettendorf; Wilma (Thomas Thiesen) Haines, Blue Grass; Norman (Dede) Haines, Blue Grass; Marilyn Simmons, Buffalo; daughter-in-law, Maryann Haines, Davenport; 29 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister: Doris Whennen and Janice Harreld both from Ottumwa; and her beloved dogs Sugar and Taco. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons: Larry and Charles Jr. Haines; five brothers and six sisters.
