Barbara L. Gillaspie

Barbara Louise Gillaspie, 87, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Manor Care in Davenport. Private family services will be held. Her final resting place will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery with her husband. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Barbara was born September 30, 1933 in Millersburg, IL, the daughter of Clifford and Sadie (Gardner) Wakeland. She married John H. Gillaspie, Jr. in August 1954 in Millersburg, IL. He died July 25, 2020. She worked as a claims representative for Blue Cross Blue Shield for over 17 years. After her retirement, she worked seasonally at Deck the Halls in North Park Mall. Barbara had many hobbies including: sewing, cooking, where she was famous for her meatloaf, yardwork, gardening, bantering with her husband and traveling with him in their convertible to numerous family reunions. She took great pride in caring for her home and loved Christmas time so much that she kept a decorated tree in her home all year. She also loved her three cats, Tommy, Tammy and Chrissy, who lived long and healthy lives due to her wonderful care. Those left to cherish her memory include nieces and nephews: Phyllis (Steve) Evans, Carolyn (Joe) Baker, Dean (Joyce) Gillaspie, Diane (Larry) Spaur, Lana Gillaspie and Lauralee Hudson and several others in addition to many other extended family members. Her parents and a sister, Beverly Hofmann preceded her in death.
