Barbara J. Herbst

Barbara Jane Herbst, “B. J.”, 92, passed away peacefully at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa on January 29, 2012 .Visitation will be 10-11 A.M Thursday, February 2, 2012 at The Runge Mortuary with private graveside service. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to the Companion Animal Fund at Iowa State University, 2505 University Blvd., Ames, IA. 50010. Barb was born on May 30, 1919 to Lillian P. and Howard G. Reynolds in Davenport, Iowa.

On May 23, 1942 Barb married Kenneth A. Herbst and they enjoyed many memorable trips to Alaska, Hawaii and Switzerland, plus spending many winters on South Padre Island, Texas, where the sun was always shining, the kite’s were flying and the fish were biting – along with nightly gatherings with jokes and laughter shared with a wonderful group of friends. After Kenny passed away in 1987, Barb continued her winter sojourn on South Padre, along with many more memories created with trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii and family gatherings in West Des Moines, Iowa and Richmond, Virginia.

Barb and Kenny were life members of Oakwood Country Club and members of Newcomb Presbyterian Church.

Barb is survived by her daughter, Pam (Reid) Allen, West Des Moines, Iowa and son, Dave (Kathy) Herbst, Richmond, VA.
