Bartholomew “Bart” Powers Becker, 79, died on September 27, 2019 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 4 - 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John’s UMC Scholarship Fund, St. John’s UMC Foundation, or Davenport School Foundation for Great Minds.
Bart was born in Garner, IA on May 28, 1940 to Leo and Elizabeth (Powers) Becker. Bart graduated from Humboldt High School in 1958. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Bart was united in marriage to Janice Bennett on August 25, 1963. He graduated with a BA in Education and received his Master’s in counseling from UNI. Bart taught Driver Education in the Davenport Schools and became a CHS Counselor. He obtained a Specialist Degree from Western University, Macomb, IL.
Bart was an active member of NEA, DEA, PDK, and St. John’s UMC. He also spent three years on the Scott County Extension Service Board. He was a huge supporter of CHS home athletic competitions, musical, and drama events through his 35 years at CHS.
Bart is survived by his wife Janice; son Royal (Renee’) Becker; granddaughter, Kay Lee (Wesley) Wheeler; step grandchildren, Trey (Kendall) Arriola and Paul Arriola; sisters, Karen May, Jill (Ed) Copelin and brother Kerry (Carol) Becker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike Becker.
