

Berneta was a proud graduate of United Township High School and continued her education at Black Hawk College. She dedicated part of her career working for the United States Postal Service and later served as a Supervisor at Oscar Mayer.
Affectionately known as “Bert,” she was known for her fun-loving spirit and vibrant personality. She found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. Berneta had a deep passion for the arts; she loved painting and had a special interest in photography, expressing her creativity through both. She also enjoyed playing softball in various leagues and was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children, Careem Hunter of East Moline, Illinois, and Stephanie Weathers of Arlington, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Georgetta Patterson (Kenneth) of Youngstown, Ohio, and Georgina Dunbar (Ricky) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Berneta was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Mae Weathers; her father, George Weathers; her son, Chris Hunter; her daughter, Raytasha Weathers-Hunter; her brother, Dave Weathers; and her granddaughter, Amia Weathers.
A Memorial/Prayer Service will be held on May 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Hampton Cemetery in Hampton, Illinois.
