Berniece Irene Asplund

Berniece Irene Asplund, 97, of Bettendorf, IA, left our world on June 23, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Visitation will take place at Weerts Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., with a funeral service to follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Garden in Galesburg, IL. Memorial may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Grace Lutheran Church in Davenport.

Berniece was born in Woodhull, Il, on January 15, 1929, to parents Arthur Raymond and Cosetta (Stiers) Luallen. She married Arland Asplund on August 12, 1948, in Woodhull.

Berniece was competent, curious, and creative in everything. She knew hardware and car mechanics and could tailor a black crepe cocktail dress to perfection when requested. Whether it was cub scouts or girl scouts, she had the best crafts, from mosaic tile trivets to Christmas ornaments, that are still sparkling proudly decade after decade.

Over the years when she got off her John Deere mower, she golfed, quilted at church, delivered meals on wheels, and enjoyed the 500 parties with Al and a great group of couples from church, and how she loved being a grandma and great grandma!

Berniece is survived by her children, Sharon Asplund of Bettendorf, and Terry (Cathy) Asplund of Omaha; daughter-in-law Ellen Asplund of Davenport; grandchildren Courtney (Phil) Manzitto, Lindsay (Tony) Cento, Raina (Kris) Hisey, and Robert Asplund; and great grandchildren, Isabella Carraher, Mason and Luciana Manzitto, and Anthony, Annette, and Alaine Cento. Plus, Kevin Hisey. Kevin made seven! She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Berniece was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son Donald, as well as grandson Greg Asplund, and her three siblings, Willis Luallen, Marjorie O’Dell and Donald Lee Luallen.
